Haiku in Croatian by Tomislav Maretić, Vrapče, Croatia
Translation: author
Barking and wagging
his tail this fierce guardian
of lilacs.
Laje i maše
repom taj ljuti čuvar
jorgovana.
* * *
In spite of everything
her dog wags its tail when
we meet each other.
I nakon svega
njen pas mi maše repom
kad se sretnemo.
* * *
At the cross-roads
a truck bringing snow
from far off.
Na prilaznici
kamion donosi snijeg
dalekog kraja.
* * *
Carrying the sleeping child
to her bed
I feel embraced.
Noseć' usnulo
dijete u krevetić, osjećam
se zagrljen.
* * *
Winter silence.
The silver leap of a fish
lit by moonlight.
Zimska tišina.
Obasjan mjesečinom
srebrn skok ribe.
* * *
In front an inn
cows in the truck waiting
for the driver’s drink.
Pred krčmom krave
u kamionu čekaju
na piće vozača.
