Haiku in Croatian by Duško Matas, Zagreb, Croatia
Translation: Ð.V. Rožić
open window
the sounds of the street and
the room blending
otvoren prozor
miješaju se glasovi
sobe i ulice
* * *
flowers blossom
on the straw hat
of an old lady
cvijeće cvate
na slamnatom šeširu
stare gospođe
* * *
children's game
a street set alive
with one ball
dječja igra
oživjela ulica
s jednom loptom
* * *
rainy street
paces and voices
fewer and fewer
kiša na ulici
koraci i glasovi
prorjeđuju se
* * *
the sunset
pulls with it the line
of the sea and the sky
zalaz sunca
povlači sobom crtu
mora i neba
* * *
in the dusk
a vanishing angler -
glow of a cigarette
u sumraku
nestaje ribič, ostao
žar cigarete
